The Australian Motor Neuron Disease DNA Bank

INTRODUCTION

The Australian Motor Neuron Disease DNA Bank has been set up to look for genetic susceptibility to all forms of Motor Neuron Disease. The aim of this Bank is to provide a resource for researchers undertaking studies into the causes of MND. The Bank is managed by A/Prof Roger Pamphlett in the Faculty of Medicine at The University of Sydney.

HOW CAN I HELP ?

If you agree to contribute to the Bank, you will be asked to consent to a small blood sample to be taken from a vein in your arm. DNA and protein from your blood will be stored at the University of Sydney. In addition, we ask you to complete a questionnaire to assess your possible exposure to harmful environmental agents. You will be given an information sheet, a consent form, and a questionnaire. Your blood will be taken by an experienced Registered Nurse.

It is also vital to compare people who do not have MND. These can be partners, friends or relatives of people with MND. We ask that you also fill out the questionnaire and provide a blood sample.

HOW TO CONTACT US

If you would like to donate a blood sample to the Bank you can either:

Phone: (02) 9036 5456
Fax: (02) 9351 3429
Email: dnamnd@med.usyd.edu.au

Thank you – your contribution will be of great help in finding the cause of MND
